Relatives worry for orphaned children after parents dies in Johor car crash

Mr. Chua Keh Loing, 41, and Madam Sam Chew Yong, 42, had planned to spend the Hari Raya Aidilfitri long weekend in Malaysia with their family. However, their plans were tragically cut short when they were involved in a car accident in Johor, resulting in their untimely deaths. Their two young children, eight-year-old Chua Jun Xian and five-year-old Xin Rou, who were also in the car, are now left orphaned. The extended family is now faced with the difficult task of determining their future care arrangements. The children had previously been under the care of Madam Sam’s mother, but she is now paralysed and unable to continue looking after them.

Do not underestimate the importance of Wills

“The extended family is now faced with the difficult task of determining their future care arrangements.”

This is something that burdens the extended family as much as they have the heart to help. Should Mr Chua or Madam Sam did their Will with a professional, they might have care arrangements done for their minor children. Care arrangements are not limited to guardianship, but also their personal welfares and assets that are to be handed to the minor children.

By thinking about situations where individuals have faced difficulties or complications due to not having a will, you can see the potential risks and benefits associated with this decision.

These vivid examples serves as a reminder that without a will, your assets and final wishes might be subjected to uncertainty, disputes, and even estrangement among your loved ones. As if this is not bad enough, guardianship of minor children is also an additional case to think about when dealing with your assets.
